Friday nights are memorable occasions in the life of teens here at Enochs High School. High school football, a popular tradition that amplifies the trill, camaraderie, and spirit in individuals as the crowd cheers on their team. These games are more than just sports events; they are a reflection of community, tradition, and undeniable passion that unifies the players, students, parents, and fans.
The Enochs student section, better known as the Enochs Entourage is the hotspot in the bleachers for students attending the Friday night football games. Each game has its own theme where the students and any participants dress up. While some students attend this game to engage and watch the tackles and field goals, a majority of students aren’t going to watch, they are usually either talking with friends and taking pictures, or walking around to pass time. The question is, why don’t they do that somewhere else?
“ I like to come to the Enochs football games because it is a fun event to do with all of your friends, and not be around the school environment” said senior Angelina Perez. “High school football games insert a surge of energy around the school campus. They serve as a rally point for students to show their pride.”
The pep band is essential for boosting morale during a football game. They can lead the crowd in chants that can help everyone feel connected to the school’s traditions. The pep band’s role extends beyond just playing the national anthem before every game, they also provide a constant soundtrack throughout the game, filling breaks with music and engaging fans during nail biting moments.
“It’s a really cool experience, you get to actively be a part of the game as opposed to just attending. Everyone works together to hype the crowd up and it creates an exciting environment” says sophomore pep band saxophonist Addison Simpson.
Although participants in the Enochs pep band have a significant job, they sometimes can feel as if they are missing out on the involvement in the student section during an intense game. Also mentioned by Addison, “Being apart of the pep band is fun, but the Enochs Entourage is a classic high school experience, it’s easy to miss that.”
The Enochs Entourage isn’t only rallying at football games, there are similar experiences during other sports events which include volleyball, and basketball. The students at these games create an unforgettable environment for players and fans alike no matter which sport it is.
Senior Trent Acedillo says “I play basketball for the school, so I get to have that feeling of a similar environment to that of the football games, but with something I’m much more passionate about.”
Friday nights, nights filled with passion from both the players, and the crowd. A crowd filled with ardent students ready to cheer on their school. Friday night school football is more than just a sporting event; it is a cultural phenomenon deeply woven into the fabric of the lives of teens at Enochs High School.
