Enochs’ Homecoming Dress-Up Week: A Fashion Guide

Enochs' Homecoming Dress-Up Week: A Fashion Guide
Monday, October 7th: Disco vs. Tie-Dye (70s)
Monday, October 7th: Disco vs. Tie-Dye (70s)

While tie-dye outfits are rather self-explanatory, people can go pretty diverse with this theme.

Reflecting the hippie craze of the 70s, your outfit can be taken to the next level with a headband to keep away that grown-out hair, rounded John-Lennon-style sunglasses, and flared jeans. All you need now is a cardboard “Peace & Love” sign, and you’ll look psychedelic!

Or, if you just want to meet the standard, a tie-dye T-Shirt will do. Seniors will most likely bring out their DIY Senior Sunrise shirts (don’t know what that is? Read our article all about it!), and FFA students could represent in their shirts, too!

Disco is a pretty specific theme that’s easy to nail if you know what you’re doing. Even though flared pants were mentioned before, it pales in comparison to the extent one can go with Disco outfits. Don’t be shy when it comes to flare, Eagles. We’re talking pants, sleeves, blouses, the  works. The more flare, the better.

A second aspect of outfits seen at a disco in the 60s is glitter. Metallic garments could work, too, but the goal is to be as reflective as the Disco ball above your head. Sequins are a great choice to hit this criteria, but flashy silver or gold clothes easily suffice. Make sure to bring out some bright colors, and have fun with this theme, it’s a keeper.

Tuesday, October 8th: Punk Rock vs. Preppy (80s)

For some kids at Enochs, these themes are all they wear to school.

Punks were an entire revolution that still has a lingering aftermath that exists today, but it can be characterized by some key pieces of clothing, arguably the most prominent of which is the black leather jacket. Girls often wore skirts and fishnet leggings, but their other option were black ripped jeans. For guys, the ripped-sleeve denim jacket is extremely reminiscent of Metallica and maybe even Nirvana, but you might have to dig out your dad’s album covers to know for sure.

Eyeliner, red lipstick, and a side part are essential to completing the look. Keeping it school-safe, throw on a choker if you want to go all-out! Following these tips, you’ll be the perfect image of the non-conformist generation who scoffed at the preppy kids.

Speaking of preppy kids, the other side of the 80s included children nose-deep in academia. For this vibe, one thing is emphasized more than anything else: COLLARS! Whether you button it all the way up, pop it, or

secure it with a tie, preppy outfits almost always have to include a collar. Plaid designs drive home the whole private-school aesthetic, and V-neck sweaters give everything a satisfyingly clean look (looking at

the weather, though, that probably won’t be needed). If guys want to maximize their preppy vibes, they can tie a cardigan around their shoulders. Shorts and skirts, neatly pressed, should be an ideal choice this Tuesday. Get lost in your books with these preppy outfit ideas!

Wednesday, October 9th: Sitcom Families (90s)
Wednesday, October 9th: Sitcom Families (90s)

The 90s could arguably be considered the golden age of sitcoms and TV shows. What this theme is trying to encapsulate is defining some of the characters we grew up with through clothing and fashion.

So whether you’re dressing up as Michelle Tanner or Rory Gilmore, take a second to observe your character’s wardrobe. What are their defining fashion choices? Do they have a signature hairstyle? Makeup look? For this theme, it honestly depends on the show. For Young Sheldon, you might want to transfer your books to a briefcase. For Joey, maybe pack a few snacks just for you.

A great idea with this theme is to grab your entire friend group and coordinate characters. Modern Family is a perfect example of a sitcom family that would be easily identifiable in a friend group. Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and Full House are some others, but get creative!

Thursday, October 10th: Jersey vs. Jersey Shore (00s)
Thursday, October 10th: Jersey vs. Jersey Shore (00s)

A fairly straightforward theme to wrap things up, students and staff can pull up in their favorite teams’ Jersey, whether that’s for football, soccer, or baseball. Some trendy things to pair with your jersey are white pants, a tennis skirt, baggy jeans, or just leggings! If the weather gets a little chilly, don’t hesitate to put on an undershirt just in case.

But as we get closer and closer to the Homecoming game, if you’re an Enochs athlete, bring out your sports jersey! This week is the best time to appreciate how hard our athletes train to represent us and make us proud, so show that off as much as you want. Choose whatever makes you most comfortable, though.

‘Jersey Shore’ is likely the theme the least people are aware of. As it turns out, Jersey Shore was a 2000-2010s TV show about a group of adults who spend their summer in a large house on the coast of New Jersey (hence the name).

There is so much drama and controversy behind that show, but what we need to know are the fashion trends. Get inspired by Italian-American fashion a couple of decades ago, and channel your summer beach

vibes with bright colors and clothes for hot weather (as if we weren’t doing that already).

For guys, spiky hair, chains, and T-Shirts will do the trick. For girls, things can vary quite a bit, but the aesthetic is reminiscent of Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, for a start. Heavy makeup and dangling earrings tie up this look and have you ready for the cameras!
