A heated rivalry exists at Enochs High School between two beloved teachers: Mr. Farinha, a Penn State supporter, and Mr. Montalbano, an Oregon Ducks fan.
Obviously, things didn’t go to well for Mr. Farinha. The last time that Oregon and Penn State played each other before December 7th was 29 years ago in the 1995 Rose Bowl. The Nittany Lions beat the Ducks, 38-20.
This showdown has been brewing for a long time coming and finally we have a chance for the Ducks to quack back. This game was a big one having the #1 seed undefeated Oregon Ducks taking on the #4 seed Penn State Lions. If the Ducks win they secure the #1 seed ensuring a first round bye in the first 12 team college playoffs ever! Before I describe the game, Penn State has quite the roster- featuring Abdul Carter, one of the best defensive players in the country. While, on the other side of the ball, they have Tyler Warren, an absolute dominant tight end who was close to being a Heisman trophy finalist. Oregon, on the other hand, has a stellar quarterback, tight end, running back, and wide receiving core; they have the best roster in college football today, without a doubt, led by Dillon Gabriel who by the end of the game threw for 283 for 22/32 and 4td! Of note is also Jordan James with 20 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns. The most stellar performance, however, was without a doubt Tez Johnson racking up 11 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown! On the defensive end, Tysheem Johnson had a day, putting up 9 total tackles.
While on the other side for Penn State, led by Drew Allar: he threw 20/39 for 226 yards with three touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The run game was awesome, too, with Kaytron Allen having 14 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown. Singleton ran well with 10 carries for 105 yards. It was a combination of all four Penn State receivers with three different receivers catching a touchdown, Tyler Warren led pass catchers in yards with 84. The game was an absolute shootout, ending 45-37 in favor of Oregon. Both teams played a tough game and we can’t wait to see more for many years to come. The Ducks showed out in their first Big Ten Championship Game beating the #4 team in the country.
With the help of the round one bye hopefully the Ducks can waddle away with a National Championship this year!
<Until then, tough luck, Mr. Farinha>
