This weekend, January 25th and 26th 2025, the NFL advances to the next round of playoffs. This is the final weekend before the NFC champion and AFC champion take on one another in the Superbowl on February 13th.
Last week, in the divisional round, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans with a score of 23-14. The Chiefs will advance play in the AFC championship game on Sunday, the 26th. As for the Baltimore Ravens, they were not able to secure the victory against the Buffalo Bills. In the close 25-27 game, the Bills clinched the win and will have a tough battle against the Chiefs for the AFC title and a spot at Superbowl LVIII (59). As for now, the fan favorite seems to be the Buffalo Bills in the heated AFC matchup of Bills v Chiefs. This may be part of the Chiefs suspicious wins and unfair calls that many fans across the country have claimed. But regardless of the referees calls for the season, this will be a nail biting game for both sides.
As far as the NFC goes, the Washington Commanders surprisingly defeated the Detroit Lions 45-31. The Lions were heavily favored to win, however the Commanders proved the NFL wrong and came out on top. The Los Angeles Rams are not advancing after their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with a final score of 22-28. Going into the NFC championship we have the matchup between the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams stem from the NFC East division where they play each other twice during the regular season. During the regular season, the Eagles won the first time around with a score of 26-18. However the Commanders won in a very tight lead of 36-33 while scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion within the last 30 seconds of the game. Although for the championship game the Eagles are favored right now, it could be a real surprise as far as who is going to take the NFC championship title.
Jasen Bracy, a Pitsburg Steelers fan and quarterback at Enochs had a lot to say about the upcoming games this weekend.
When asked how he feels about the games this weekend he responded saying, “I think it’s gonna be an interesting matchup. Of course, you know, Kansas City is going to the Super Bowl if they win. Then they go back to back to back Super Bowl wins. I want to see the Eagles and Chiefs go to the Super Bowl. But I also wanna see Washington so I think each game will come down to the final drive”, said Bracy, #12.
Mrs. Jessica Valerio, a San Francisco 49ers fan and history teacher at Enochs told me the following on the conference championship games.
When asked who she thinks will win the match ups, she said, “The Chiefs and Eagles will win”.
To follow up, Valerio felt that “I have no doubt the stupid Chiefs will make it to the Super Bowl because the stupid refs will help them,” said Valerio. “But if that happens then I want the Eagles to beat them. I just can’t bring myself to like the Chiefs anymore.”
Next week, a follow up article will be published with updated scores and pregame hype for the AFC v NFC ProBowl game. There, the best both conferences will go head to head in the friendly match up to prepare us all for SuperBowl LVIII(59).
