Everything that happened this week in the divisional matchups and what the next weeks will look like for the NFL.

After 18 weeks and playoffs, it has been determined who will play in Super Bowl LIX (59). The big game will be a head to head mashup of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs to see who will win the Vince Lombardi Trophy.  However, this is not the first time we have seen these two teams play one another in recent years for the Trophy. Just two years ago, the Eagles and Chiefs played one another where the Chiefs had a slim win of 38-35. The Eagles will be the home team at Ceaser Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. As for how it is decided who is home v away, depends on if it is an odd Super Bowl or even. If it is odd, the NFC seed will be home. If it is an even Super Bowl, the AFC seed will be the home team. This game has left many NFL fans wondering, is this the chance for the Eagles to have a comeback or will the Chiefs prove their dominance?

As for Sunday’s games, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders with a brutal score of 55-23. In a close game, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Buffalo Bills with a final score of 32-29. Kansas City has been the AFC champion for 4 of the past 5 years and won 3 of the past 4 Super Bowls they played in.

For many, the Chiefs have reached the point of when the Patriots were in their prime with Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. Fans of every other team are placing faith in the Eagles to knock the Chiefs off of their reign. If the Chiefs win this game, they will be back to back to back Super Bowl champions. For the Eagles, a win in this rematch will be a chance at redemption and the Eagles second win in the past 10 years.

Mrs. Monica Poole, PE teacher, coach, and Chiefs fan at Enochs is ready for the big game. After asking how she feels heading into the Super Bowl, she told me “I feel nervous. We are going up against the Eagle whose run game is stellar and scary. If we can’t stop (Saquon) Barkley we lose the game. That’s how we will win” said Poole. When asked if she thinks the refs have had any play in helping the chiefs game after game as many fans speculate, Poole told me, “No I don’t believe we had ANY help getting to where we are. Refs are in a position to make judgement calls as best as they believe”. Poole, being a Chiefs fan, denies any help from referees when it comes to their success during the regular season and playoffs.

Colton Von Savoye, future Enochs Eagle and Philadelphia Eagles fan, is confident in his team for the upcoming game. When asked to discuss more on the topic Von Savoye told The Eagle Eye,

“We should win because we have the best ranked defense in the league and we have serious weapons on the team”.

He continued to tell The Eagle Eye that those “weapons” consisted of A.J. Brown for passing as well as Saquon Barkley as another key player for the Eagles. Finally, I asked if he felt that the referees helped the Chiefs this season and he told me, “Definitely. Mahomes even admitted to flopping to get a flag during (the) Texans game” said Von Savoye. Von Savoye also expressed his disliking for Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback. This hostility felt in one Eagles fan is a common feeling amongst many fans of the NFL.

This coming Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, the best of the best from the NFC will go against the AFC. This friendly competition between the conferences is a chance for the Eagles and the Chiefs to prepare for the Super Bowl to come on Sunday, February 9th, 2025.
