This 2024-25 school year was the first to introduce the Enochs Ambassadors class, and they’ve been working hard to drive up school spirit! This Friday they are hosting a Squid Game-style “Red light, green light” game in the quad. So here’s an inside look into the Ambassadors class, everything you may want to know about the game, and why you should participate.

AP Government teacher Mr. Richards is the ambassador class advisor and “glue,” as he put it.

Richards admits “the students really take kind of a leadership role,” though, and they drive creative collaboration for fun events like Friday’s.

When there isn’t a huge game to plan, however, this class’s day-to-day is mostly to ensure a welcoming environment at Enochs. Fundraisers, welcome packages, freshman activities, and the 5-Star store are just some of the activities Richards listed as parts of their responsibilities.

But, as ambassador President Jesus Resendiz said, class is “either a lot of brainstorming or a lot of work and there’s no in between.”

Whichever it is, there’s never a dull moment in class N130. The ambassador’s goal is to increase school spirit and participation, especially among lower classmen. That’s why this class is starting a new initiative this spring for biweekly Friday events.

They work every morning to ensure “everyone feels heard and everybody feels included” on campus, as Resendiz said. Although they’ve created great events and school spirit, since this was the first year Enochs has had an ambassador’s class, there have been some anxieties to figure out. Both Richards and Resendiz agree that starting an organization from scratch with no provided blueprint requires some extra creativity and work. This does give them a wider range of possibilities, though, to create original and fun events like Friday’s game!

If you haven’t seen the hilarious post on the Enochs Ambassadors Instagram page or their Squid Game posters throughout the halls, you may be asking what Friday’s game will be. Inspired by Netflix’s Squid Game, participants will be paired with a buddy by being tied together and play “red light, green light.”

If Mr.Richards -dressed as the iconic robot girl doll from the show- catches you moving, you get silly stringed by ambassadors! Win, however, and you can get “candy,… soda, some things better than just gift cards” according to Resendiz.

All this Squid Game fun will be by the stage at lunch. In Richards’ words, “It will make for an interesting Friday”.

All this hard work and creativity go towards creating fun school wide events for students to participate in; so participate! Fun games like these take nothing but a willingness to try, and you can gain so much -not just food.

“These are the things you look back on later, and they make you smile,” said Richards, as encouragement to anyone considering playing. All Enochs Eagles can grab a friend and come play Friday, and they should. Their participation not only gives them fond memories, but it’s rewarding for all the dedicated ambassadors who put it together.

Everyone in that class is “really committed to what we do,” says Resendiz, and they dedicate themselves to ensuring everyone on campus can have a good time. So come have a good time this Friday, and see if you could have won in Squid Games.
