After capturing a share of the CCAL championship last season, the Enochs Eagles enter the 2025 campaign with confidence, experience, and unfinished business. Last year’s run marked a turning point for the program, proof that hard work, chemistry, and defensive grit can bring banners to the gym. Now, the challenge shifts from chasing the crown to defending it. Was last year’s shared success a fluke, or is just a stepping stone for the legacy Enochs will make this year.
In order to repeat their success, Enochs will have to maintain its defensive technique while also putting a major focus on offense due to the loss of PG Mason Galvan who averaged around 17 points per game. Enochs also lost 6 ‘7’’ C Kila Day who played a major role in rebounding and scoring in the paint. Finally, they lost senior forward Roshaun Belleza who attacked both the 3 point line as well as the paint. The Eagles thrived last year by forcing turnovers, controlling tempo, and winning close games.
With strong preseason preparation, team chemistry, and the same hunger that fueled last year’s title run, Enochs has the tools to go even further. If the Eagles stay disciplined and focused, another championship banner could be on the horizon. This year they maintain a strong returning core consisting of G Joseph Ponteras, G Andrey Donasco, F Blake Bennet, F Marcus Leon, and C Louie Dill. Although they lost scoring and height from last year, they maintain a strong lineup that has a balanced set of skills, some of which including 3 pt shooting, mid-range scoring, inside scoring, rebounding, and passing. These players maintain a strong defensive intensity with a great strength in help defense, alongside a backup squad with the same hunger to win.
To win again this season, Enochs needs to build on the defensive energy and team chemistry that fueled last year’s title run. The Eagles must stay disciplined on defense, limit turnovers, and improve their shooting consistency, especially from the perimeter. Developing a stronger inside game will also help them control the boards and finish tough possessions. Leadership from returning players and the hunger of new talent will be key. If Enochs keeps its focus and intensity, another championship season is well within reach. This year Enochs has to maintain a great overall record as well as an incredible league record in order to do what they did last year to cement a two-peat, indicating a legacy being formed.
